Genesee County Family Promise continues hosting homeless families at 13 area churches. This week volunteers from our church supported the Flushing Presbyterian Church when their turn to host arrived. We performed the hosting activities for 2 of the 7 days in their week of hosting by preparing the dinner meals, providing social activities in the evenings, and staying overnight. We had good experiences with the seven children and five adults that are currently enrolled in the program. They are actively searching for work and permanent housing with the assistance of a social worker and the Day Center located in the Calvary United Methodist Church in Flint. This intensive program is certainly helping these families toward self-reliance. So far this year, 3 families have become independent again.
