Genesee County Family Promise initiated hosting homeless families at 13 area churches earlier this year.  Our church serves as a support church for the Flushing Presbyterian Church when their turn to host arrives four times each year.  This past week our 16 volunteers performed the hosting activities for 2 of the 7 days in their week of hosting.  We prepared the dinner meals, provided social activities in the evenings, and stayed overnight.  We had good experiences with the four children and three mothers that are currently enrolled in the program.  They are actively searching for work and permanent housing with the assistance of a social worker and the Day Center located in the Calvary United Methodist Church in Flint.  This intensive program is certainly helping these families toward self-reliance.
