Dale Swihart’s Retirement Party

Polly Sheppard as MCAfter 18 years of service and 40 years of ministry, dignitaries, colleagues, friends and family gathered in fellowship hall of Saturday, December 28, to express their appreciation.  We filled fellowship hall with lots of people, memories and love!  The open house format allowed individuals to talk with Dale as well as his family.

Polly Sheppard did a great job as Master of Ceremonies for us.  Polly introduced the wide variety of speakers as well as shared her stories.  Dave Dixner, Rotary President, shared the service that Dale did with them.  Mayor Sue Osborn recognized Dale’s contributions to the community as a leader.  John Peck shared some Alma College stories as well as Dale’s contributions in the Lansing church earlier in his ministry.  Rev. Josh Hoover remembered Dale’s assistance and his strong ecumenical service.  Rev. Ted McCulloch remembered Dale’sDSCN3226 involvement in Presbytery as well as golfing lessons.  Rev. Wally Mayton remembered Dale’s mentoring from seminary through life.  Professor Joseph Walser remembered Dale’s inquisitive and thoughtful questions in bible study.  Dale’s daughter Kristin remembered their close family times and what a great father he is.  Esther Fisher recalled Dale’s support when she worked on staff here.

The Kirkey family remembered Dale baptizing them and shared a letter they wrote to Dale about what he has meant to them over their years in our church.  Each of them shared their own memories.  Dale really did impact every age and stage of life.

Mabel Render presented Dale withFishing Notes a photo album and slide show of various times in his ministry.  Deb Bard presented Dale with a memory book of notes written by various members and a picture painted by Vera Thornton with Dale fly fishing and notes written on the back by various members.  Polly Sheppard presented Dale a check from everyone for some retirement “mad money.”

The Dibbleville Dolls sang to Dale several songs.  One of the songs had a verse they composed specifically for him.

As always, we gave Dale the last word.  Dale reflected on what his ministry here meant to him and wished us well too.  We will always be friends.
